We're through to the final of the IBM Watson Mobile Developer Challenge

We're delighted to announce that we have won a place in the final of the IBM Watson Mobile Developer Challenge, from hundreds of initial entries and a shortlist of 25.

As part of the competition, we have developed an app that uses the power of Watson and Red Ant’s RetailOS system to enable sales staff to provide a next generation, customised retail experience. Down to the last five, we are now set to travel to Orlando, Florida to pitch the app to judges at the IBM Innovate conference on Monday 2nd June.

Our entry is a companion for retail sales assistants that:

  • analyses customer demographics
  • shows purchase histories
  • provides product information
  • gives local pricing
  • shows customer reviews and tech specs to provide customised selling points unique to each customer

The app takes advantage of Watson's ability to converse with users in human speech, relaying information through text on screen, text-to-speech via an earpiece, and in the future via wearables like Augmented Reality (AR) enabled glasses or smartwatches.

Red Ant's Technical Director Dan Hartveld says:

"The opportunity to pitch our app to the IBM Watson team really is a fantastic honour for Red Ant, and we are delighted to have made it to the last five in the Mobile Developer Challenge. As one of two finalists from the UK, it’s great to see British technical expertise taking its place in a global arena."
